Dr Goh Keng Swee’s public career spanned two eventful decades. He was a founding member of Singapore’s ruling political party, and played a significant role in creating and shaping the destiny of Singapore today. His areas of responsibility were wide-ranging, including finance, defence, and education.
Based on extensive research, including interviews with family members, friends and colleagues, this is an anecdotal account of Dr Goh’s life-story told by the author, his daughter-in-law. Tan Siok Sun traces Dr Goh’s footsteps from his humble beginnings in Melaka, to his days at Raffles College and the London School of Economics, to his service in the Singapore Government, and to his retirement.
Above all, his achievements in helping to create the modern landscape of values, institutions and environments that constitute Singapore today represent a vital legacy for the nation’s present and future generations.
Editions Didier Millet
Editions Didier Millet (EDM) was founded in 1989 in Paris by Didier Millet. He opened a branch of EDM in Singapore in 1990, which soon established itself as the headquarters and centre of the business. Today, EDM has offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. We also work closely with our sister company, Les Editions du Pacifique, based in Paris.
The company currently employs 20 staff members: 10 in Singapore, six in Kuala Lumpur, and four in Bangkok. These are predominantly editors and graphic designers with staff also working in sales, marketing, production and accounts.
EDM enjoys an international reputation for our high-quality books, and publishes approximately 30 new titles per annum in print form, and around 15 ebooks. We have published over 500 titles in total, of which some 130 are currently in print, comprising mainly general illustrated and reference titles for the adult trade market. The chief subject areas are travel, history, natural history, art, architecture, cookery and lifestyle. The books are mainly about Southeast Asia, but not exclusively so, and many of our titles have become standard reference sources for art and culture enthusiasts as well as travellers.
