Pustaka Nasional Pte Ltd (PN) has published over 800 titles of which 80% are in Malay, 10% in Arabic and the remaining in English. Also 80% of the books published are on religion and the remainder on literary works. PN also produced the first quality hardback edition of religious books in Malay which have been well accepted by the general public. It also started reintroducing old Jawi books into roman script for people who no longer could read the Jawi script. PN publishes the Arabic curriculum textbooks and workbooks for madrasahs in Singapore in 1996. PN also copublished English books with Darul Arqam Singapore and Islamic Book Publishers, Kuwait in the 1980s. Let’s Pray – an English translation of one of the books by PN’s late founder Syed Ahmad Semait has been printed over 30,000 copies since 1982.
The company was started by the late Mr Syed Ahmad Bin Muhammad Semait(d. 2006) when he was an assistant at a book shop called Al-Maktabah At-Tijari Ash-Sharqi in 1950’s. He took over the busines and changed it to Pustaka Nasional in 1963 and started publishing several books in Malay and Jawi. He also supplied the local Madrasah Aljuneid and Madrasah Alsagoff with their textbooks that were imported from the Middle East.
The principal activities of PN lie in publishing quality books, distribution to retail outlets in Singapore, Brunei & Malaysia, typesetting services in Arabic, Malay & English.

3. What currency are the listed prices based on?
All listed prices are in SGD (Singapore Dollars).
4. Are there taxes on your goods?
All local purchases are subject to a 7% Singapore Goods and Services Tax (GST). The tax amount is applied to the listed prices during checkout. This provides you with a clear breakdown of what you are paying for, and also helps with our accounting purposes.
If your shipping address is outside of Singapore, then GST will not be applied to your order in accordance to Singapore tax laws.
5. What are the payment methods available?
We accept debit, credit or PayPal payment for local and international orders. If you would like to make payment via any alternative payment modes, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
6. How will my order be shipped?
We ship via SingPost.
7. How long will it take for my order to reach me?
For local shipment, you will receive your package within 5-10 working days from the date of your order.
For International shipment, you will receive your package within 10–14 working days, subject to custom clearances.
8. How much do you charge for shipping and handling?
Shipping within Singapore is FREE for all orders delivered via SingPost. If you'd like your books earlier, courier delivery is available at a top up of $5, for a delivery within 5 working days. For international shipments, shipping fees is a flat rate of $20.
9. I have received a faulty item, how do I go about exchanging it?
We take great care to pack your books carefully. However, in the event that your order is damaged (major dents) or faulty (missing pages, mis-prints), we will look into making a one-to-one exchange. Simply email us at email@example.com the picture of the damaged book, and we will dispatch a new book for you, and collect back the previous copy.
