Singapore Artists Speak 2
This title is part of Robert Yeo’s First Editions, it was published in 1994.
Singapore Artists Speak 2 completes the documentation of the work of local artists, which was started in the first book with the same title. As before, the publishers use the successful “speak out” format in which the artists reveal themselves and their art, in their own words. In all, 75 individuals who did not appear in the first Artists Speak, now have their say in this larger edition. Not the least interesting aspect of the book is the inclusion of potters, printmakers and Chinese brush painters.
The artists talk about the approaches they have taken towards their art, their chosen medium, their motivations, their sources of inspiration and their attempts to reconcile art with more pressing economic issues. They reveal their hopes for the future, as artists and as Singaporeans.
The book ends with a tribute to foremost Singapore watercolourist Lim Cheng Hoe, whose definitive watercolours are regarded as some of the finest in Singapore.
As a source of reference for anyone interested or involved in developing the arts in Singapore, Artists Speak 2 will prove invaluable — both to the artist and the reader.
